Goodbye 2015

30 December 2015

Wow, what a year it's been! I literally cannot believe how quick 2015 has gone. I've learnt so much in the space of 12 months it's ridiculous and so much has happened in the last year!

I just want to say a massive thank you to anyone who has taken some time out to read my blog, I'm only a super tiny blog too so you have no idea how much it means to me! All the comments I've received, companies who have worked with me over 2015 - thank you. I've loved working with you all and I love reading comments (even if sometimes it won't let me reply for whatever reason - damn technology). I really cannot wait to see what 2016 brings for me and the blog. I'm going to be more on it with blog posts - when I know I have a deadline coming up I will schedule a tonne of posts because I feel like in some months I've completely neglected the blog and it makes me sad and I'm angry with myself for that. So you can expect to see a lot more of me in the new year!

I don't have any resolutions really, other than just keep being myself and the best possible me I can be. Life is too short to pretend to be something you're not.

2016 is going to be a super exciting and sad year for me - I graduate (yay and nay - I really don't want university to end), I'm going to the most Magical Place on Earth for the sixth time and I've not been to WDW Florida since 2009 so I'm super excited to see how much it's changed! I'm also off back to the Harry Potter Studio Tours in London (thank you to Kayne's mum and dad) and I nearly cried with happiness! So you can expect to see posts surrounding all of this and more!

I hope you will join me in the adventure! Thanks for reading as always and I'll write again in the new year,

Lip Kit By Kylie: Candy K

21 December 2015

Apologies for the blog being so silent, the last couple weeks at Uni have been absolutely mental. Ive handed in my deadlines and I've had dissertation deadlines too. I came home for Christmas on Saturday, straight into 10-12 hour days so it's pretty tiring as you can imagine!

So, my Kylie Jenner Lip Kit arrived (finally) after I managed to get one on the first release date in November. Couple of problems with shipping and not knowing where my order was at all. I had it sent to my University address and I came home this last weekend so I was panicking I wouldn't actually get the parcel. I think that the shipping system definitely needs improving, but I just think they're struggling to meet the demands of everyone because so many people want the lip kits, but hey ho - practice makes perfect!
Anyway, onto the review!

Firstly, the packaging is amazing, I love the style it's minimalistic but gorgeous, the lips and the lipstick dripping image is something I really love too.
I got the shade Candy K as I felt the other two were too dark for me but I might try out Dolce K soon - it seems to be a lot lighter than the box on pictures I've seen so far.

So in the box you get a matte liquid lipstick and a lip liner. Now, if you read my blog often, you'll know how much I love matte lipstick related stuff. I think it's definitely the most complimentary on my lips. They're actually amazing quality and it smells lovely! The lip liner goes on so easily and I've seen a few people saying how quick the liner goes down - I beg to differ! I put it on lightly, just enough to 'line' my lips and my liner still looks pretty full.

As you can see from the picture, it's a gorgeous mauve-pink shade (I think) Almost instantly the liquid lipstick goes matte, it doesn't remain in that nasty sticky liquidy texture that some lipglosses/lipsticks give you, it really holds to your lips. I ate, drank and wore it for about six hours in one day and didn't have to re-apply it once, it's amazing! I think in terms of 'wear and tear' it's definitely one of the best, if not the best that I've worn.

Both the lip liner and matte liquid lipstick are full size, you really do get your moneys worth. A little definitely goes a long way with this lip kit.

My lips before and after:

You can see just how much more defined my lips are and how much fuller they are. I don't have a big top lip in comparison to my bottom lip naturally but it has done an amazing job! I feel so confident when I wear the Kylie Jenner Lip Kit. I can't wait for the next release of stock and hopefully I'm going to get Dolce K, I'm going to steer clear from the darkest shade because that shade scares me! (I can't imagine that it'll look nice on my lips at all!)

Have you got any of the Kylie Jenner Lip Kits? Do you want one? Do you like them? Tell me what you think!
So that's all for today, I hope you enjoyed today's post, I've enjoyed writing it! Be sure to follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Bloglovin for updates about daily life and the blog! Thanks for reading again as always,
Merry Christmas to you all,

What University Can Teach You

2 December 2015

So my What I'd Tell My Younger Self post has proven to be quite popular, I really enjoyed writing it so I thought why not do something similar but with University! There are days when I sit there and think: why am I doing this? What will I get from it? Is it really worth it? But then I just think of all the doors that could open for me and how much of an amazing time I've had in the last couple of years and that's when I know that I'm so glad I came to University.

Enjoy first year whilst you can.
the partying will become minimal by third year.

Pre drinks is one of the best parts of the night.

No night out is complete without a terrible group photo.

The talks about the night out the day after is always hilarious and traumatic.
You'll hear about how much dumb shit you did.

You will meet some amazing people, who you know will be lifetime friends.

You'll also meet some snakes, they're not worth your time. Stay well clear.

You will get angry that you essentially pay £9,000 a year for your lecturers to read off a powerpoint presentation.

Seminars are super awkward sometimes.
Nothing worse than the tumble weed moments.

Every course has that 'one' lecturer.
You know the kind I'm talking about.

A large majority of students will feel like this during deadline period, I know I do.
I'm dreading the dissertation deadline already!

Money, you will never appreciate money as much as you will at University...
because let's be honest - you'll be in your overdraft come November.

Despite entering your overdraft you'll still buy branded products and copious amounts of takeaways.

You'll also fool yourself into believing that if you pay by card - you're not technically spending money.
This is dangerous grounds, I've been there.

Halls is TOO noisy. Come on, why do you need to party still at 5am? Pipe down.

Your sleeping pattern will cease to exist.
Because yeah, sleep isn't a big deal anyway.

The library is surprisingly a good place for napping.

And the most important of all:
Be you. No body else, just you.
University is amazing for this because you can truly discover who you are with no judging glances. This isn't secondary school anymore.

So that's it for today! I hope you enjoyed this post. In the next couple weeks I may be a bit quiet on the blog because of dissertation hand ins, an assignment and working the Santa Specials back home. I'm going to try get a tonne of posts scheduled but I can't guarantee just how many I'll get done! So please be patient with me! Be sure to follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Bloglovin. Thank you as always for reading,

Things I'd Tell My Younger Self

24 November 2015

If I could go back in time and tell my seven-fourteen year old self all this stuff, I would. I made some horrific fashion and makeup mistakes. I made some bad decisions, I mourned bands breaking up for weeks - the list goes on. We all make mistakes, we're only human at the end of it all. Here are just a couple of things I'd tell my younger self:

Stay sassy.
Number one rule.

Step away from the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse eyeshadow (specifically blue)
It never was a good look on you Katie, don't try and kid yourself.

You can get through the S Club 7 and Busted split.
They get back together in a few years time then you see S Club 7 live (and you'll cry and annoy the crap out of Kayne).

Listen to Mum, as much as you hate to admit this, she is always right.

Your make up skills WILL improve...

So will your eyebrows, the one hair brow look was NOT a good look on reflection.

You will become a cat lady, this is good.

Going to University will be one of your best life experiences so far.
The stress and everything will be worth it, you'll meet some of the best people.

Don't worry about what people think of you, haters gonna hate.

You won't remain a total fashion disaster forever...
Some looks were not good.

WKD will NOT get you drunk.

You can do anything if you put your mind to it.
Who doesn't love a bit of Bruce Bogtrotter inspo from Matilda?

Never give up on what you believe in.

Stay positive.

The past is the past for a reason, don't dwell on it. Embrace the future and live for the moment.
Little bit of Lion King in there (you can't change the past)

Keep smiling.
So you're going to have some shit times - but you're also going to have some amazing times. So stay positive and keep smiling!

So that's it for today! I hope you enjoyed this post, I really enjoyed writing this. Make sure you leave a comment below what you think! Would you tell your younger self similar things?
Make sure you follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Bloglovin for updates on the blog and general life bits! Thanks for reading - I'll post again soon,

Coconut Lane: Review!

21 November 2015

So recently I was contacted by the team at Coconut Lane asking if I wanted to work with them, I decided to check out their website briefly to see if it was something I'd be interesting in and I think you all know the result!

I immediately fell in love with their products, some of their items are flawless. It took me ages to get it down to my favourites, so I decided to go with their Stay Classy Wall Art and Marble Phone Case.
I absolutely love the wall art, that saying is too true for me. This saying is just me all over - I always say I'm sassy (I'm pretty bigheaded) and being classy and bad-assy just comes with sassy. The wall art comes with a frame too which is an added bonus because it means less hassle for me. The frame is an excellent quality frame - with this wall art you're definitely getting your moneys worth. It's also well packaged so no troubles with any breakages! At the moment I have it on my desk because I don't have any damage free hangers for my wall at the moment, but I think I may keep it on my desk as it looks pretty good there!

Next up is their marble phone case in the iPhone 5S.
This design is beautiful. It's so minimalistic and flawless. It looks amazing on my phone. It's a light phone case too I think so it's not weighing me down, it's super sturdy so I know it's made of high quality stuff. The marble pattern itself is lovely, again you're definitely getting your moneys worth with this phone case. Also, I don't know if this is the case with most phone cases (haha) but it comes slightly ridged just above the screen - I don't know whether that's to protect it when it falls but either way it's pretty cool!

All in all, I am in love with Coconut Lane. It's a fantastic little online shop. They also sell some jewellery bits which are super cute and I can't wait to buy soon! I've already told all my housemates about their website and I know a couple of them are eyeing up a few things and have requested some items for secret Santa! Coconut Lane also have some Christmas cards too (which I'm tempted to get) If you're looking for something a little bit different for Christmas then I recommend Coconut Lane. You can check out their website here
The lovely folk over at Coconut Lane have offered all you lovely readers a whopping 20% discount on your orders using this code: katie20

Let me know in the comments below what you think!
I hope you've enjoyed the post today, thanks for reading! Make sure you follow me on Instagram, Twitter and Bloglovin for general bits and bobs and updates on the blog! Do make sure you check out Coconut Lane's website as it's truly amazing and I promise you, you won't be disappointed! Thanks again for reading, I'll post again soon,

Tanya Burr Cosmetics

12 November 2015

So my favourite Youtuber of all time: Tanya Burr has recently extended her makeup range to eyebrow, cheek and eye palettes - which I was super excited about! I've been wanting to get some new bits from Tanya Burr's range for a while and I finally got round to doing it. So I got the Perfect Brows palette, Peachy Glow cheek palette, Fairy Godmother nail polish and the deck the halls christmas calendar which won't be on the blog until December!

I can tell you this now, the range did not disappoint. They're super affordable. From Superdrug online:
Nail Polish: £4.99
Perfect Brows - £6.99
Peachy Glow- £8.00

So with those prices you really can't complain or go wrong.
The packaging is beautiful, it's so Tanya! The outer packaging reminds me of vintage stuff and the old candy stalls in the films, I can't exactly pin point what it is but I love it! I also adore all the names she gives her products. Whether it be the lip glosses, nail polishes, cheek palettes and more, they're all so unique.

Excuse the half made up look -  I was in the middle of getting ready but I just wanted to show you a comparison picture. Obviously the left of the photo is with the brow palette (chestnut) and the ride side is without. It really defines the eyebrows. I think it does just as good as Benefit Cosmetics 'Browzings' so this would be a fab dupe - the only difference is that you don't get the wax with perfect brows but you really don't need it. The powders in this palette are super pigmented and a little goes a long way. I always use chestnut, I find pebble is too light for me and hot cocoa can sometimes be on the darker side. The highlighter is fairy cake and it's beautiful, it's got a gorgeous shimmer to it and it really shows off the brow bone.

What I love about this palette is that it's a three in one - bronzer, blusher and highlighter. You could even use the bronzer for light contouring. These colours are super pretty and look great on my face - I have a warm undertone to my skin so that's why I chose Peachy Glow rather than Rosy Flush.  I love the various designs on the actual product too.

This is not my first Tanya Burr polish, I have about five others from her range including Little Duck, Mini Marshmallows and Penguin Chick. I love the quality of Tanya's nail polish range, they're extremely good for the price and definitely one of my favourite brands for polish. The names again are all beautiful and so is the colours, Tanya seems to have a shade for any occasion, day and time of year. She's so thorough and passionate with her work. I think that's one of the many reasons why I love her so much alongside her confidence, genuine kindness and inspirational attitude.

Have you ever tried anything from Tanya Burr's range? Did you like it? What did you get? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
Thanks for reading today, I hope you enjoyed this post. Make sure you follow me on Bloglovin, Twitter and Instagram for updates on the blog and general life!  Thanks again for reading, I'll post again soon.

The F-word and why it's not a dirty word

30 October 2015

The F-word - you're all probably thinking 'f*&k' or some other typical swear word - nope, I'm talking about Feminism.

Before I start, if you're a troll or you're just going to be one of the keyboard warriors then please do not waste your time reading this or even bothering to comment. They'll just be ignored and deleted. This is not a hateful post, this is me as a blogger expressing my thoughts and feelings about Feminism and why I - the owner of this blog - believe we still need it today.

Firstly, contrary to popular belief, Feminism is not about men haters who burn our bras in protest all the time! It's actually about equality for both women and men across the board of society. If you check out the Oxford English Dictionary - you'll see the definition there too.

Image from www.quotesvalley.com

This post has come about because I was in my Women's Writing & Feminist Theory class the other day and I just went into a deep thought about the struggle for equality throughout the centuries and the inequalities we face still today. It was pretty emotional, my mind was just mind blown. I've always known that as women we have been disadvantaged because of our gender but I've not actually  thought about how disadvantaged we actually were and are.

Arguably, we have made great progress with the idea that we have access to education, voting, birth control etc. But then in other parts of the world in the 21st Century there are countries where women are even more disadvantaged purely because of their gender. It's actually quite upsetting to think that we have these basic human privileges and there are still young girls and women who don't have access to them. It just makes me sit and wonder - what if I was in their shoes? How would I cope? Would I try and break the mould or would I just accept that it's just 'how it is'? Honestly, I really don't know - until I'm in their position I can't comment on the situations, I can only wonder.

People will say things like ''Feminism isn't needed'' or ''Who even cares about this stuff anymore?''
When in actual fact, Feminism is most definitely needed and people do care. Think about all the women of history who have fought long and hard for the privileges we have today - the vote is a prime example and in some countries they still don't have the vote.
The ongoing discussions of FGM, arranged marriages, trafficking in young girls and women (this also happens for young boys and men), unequal pay, unequal maternity/paternity leave, the list could go on. Rape is something else entirely - the stigma with rape, how people go years without saying anything because of the rape culture that exists today - how a woman dresses or looks "Oh she deserved it, she was asking for it" - No. No she wasn't and no she does not deserve it. People need to learn the word NO and the definition of consent. Same goes for women who rape men - there is a particular stigma around that too which needs dealing with because rape is rape and entirely unacceptable in every possible aspect.
These are all just examples as to why we still need Feminism.

Another thing as well - people are afraid to outright say : ''Hey, I'm a Feminist!'' - I was one of those people. It wasn't until I came to uni and was actually educated on Feminism and equality that I was like yeah ok, I'm a Feminist! I think the word Feminism brings in a lot of negativity from social media and it shouldn't. The amount of times I see posts like "Oh, Feminists are all bra burning, men hating lesbians" Well... I'm a Feminist. I don't hate men, I don't burn bras and I'm in a long term heterosexual relationship!

Something I want to know is why are people so afraid of equality for men and women? Like why is that such a scary concept for people? Don't you want to be treated the same? Don't you want equal pay? The same rights that men have? If you do then you are a Feminist.

I asked a few people what they think Feminism is and this is what they had to say:

First up is my housemate and best friend Jade. She stands up for what she believes in, she says it how it is. Jade commented on a blog post I did a couple months ago about clothing sizes in retail - you can check that post out here. Jade pretty much hits the nail on the head with her comments about Feminism because she's right - we don't hate men, we want equality for both women and men!

Next is Jessie Bartholomew, who also commented on one of my previous posts surround clothing sizes in retail. Jessie is the Women's Officer for University of Lincoln, so I was dying to get her comments because I knew Jessie would have so much to say as she is super passionate!

Now, I really struggled to find any males willing to make any comments or contribution to this post, I knew it would've been difficult because of the stigma attached to Feminism but I didn't think it would be THAT tough. Thankfully - Rob was lovely enough to help me out. Rob pinpoints everything wrong with society and says it so brilliantly, I'm in awe of him.

I asked a couple bloggers what they think and first up is Izzy McLeod! Her Twitter name is: @muccycloud and here is a link to her blog: http://www.muccycloud.com I have only very recently discovered Izzy through her kindly helping me out with this post and I absolutely love her blog, its flawless. I look forward to every new post she does and I'm glad that I've found her blog. I definitely recommend you check her blog out - I'm sure you'll fall in love just as quick as I did!

Next is Laura, you can find her Twitter account here:@laurabutcher91 and her blog is: http://lifebylaurax.com Again, like Izzy - I didn't discover Laura until she wanted to comment on my blog and again I'm glad she did. I really enjoy her blog, Laura blogs mostly about lifestyle with makeup routines, travelling and more. She recently did a blog post about the Suffragette movie that's just been released here in the UK - you can check that out here - it's a really good read and I'm sure it won't disappoint.

Last but not least, we have Lindsey. Her Twitter is: @SparrowsBlog You can find her blog here: http://sparrowsblog.co.uk Lindsey has the cutest puppy called Dexter, her blog seems to centre around lifestyle, food and photography. Her blog is flawless and her pictures are brilliant.

As you can see from the comments, everyone's saying similar things - so yes we do need Feminism, yes we still face inequalities today, yes we have come a long way but there are still so many more disadvantaged. No, we don't hate men. No, we don't burn our bras. If there are any Feminists out there who do behave that way - then they are what I would call 'Radical Feminists' just like you get radicals in every social group, race and religion. Something I think that is definitely helping is the amount of Celebrities speaking up and saying that they are a Feminist. There are so many campaigns going on promoting equality - we need this change. It would be just wonderful if one morning we woke up to a world declaration of equality. The sad reality is that we have such a long way to go and at this rate I may not even see equality be a thing. This is why we need to campaign for our rights. If the women in the history books did it, why can't we?

That's it for today! I hope you enjoyed the read. Like I said at the start of this post - any trolls or keyboard warriors please don't waste your time. Make sure you follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Bloglovin for updates on the blog and daily life. Thanks again as always for reading, thank you to all the people who helped me out in this post, I really appreciate it, your comments help tremendously and every little helps. I'll post again soon,

Gym Wishlist!

28 October 2015

I'm on a bit of a fitness splurge at the moment. I think it's because I want to be in ace shape for Florida next year and this time of year I always feel a bit frumpy. Probably because I comfort eat from sitting around curled up in blankets and morph into a sloth. Also third year is turning Red Bulls and cereal bars into my best friends. Basically I'm creating a lot of excuses for myself. I find that when I pay for nice or expensive gym gear then I'm more likely to go because I want to get my moneys worth out of the clothes and trainers, which is a really weird logic to have but it makes sense to me!

1. White Sports Longline Run The World Tank Top - £8.99 (New Look)
2. Sports Leggings - £19.99 (H&M)
3. Sports Bra High Support - £19.99 (H&M)
4. Blue Geo Print Sports Leggings - £17.99 (New Look)
5. Win Your Own Game Sports Top - £7.99 (H&M)
6. 3 Pack White Grey and Black Contrast Trainer Socks - £4.99 (New Look)
7. Nike Flex Experience Trainers - £42.00 (Sports Direct)
8. Lime Sports Water Bottle - £5.99 (New Look)
9. Nike Flex Experience Print Trainers  - £46.00 (Sports Direct)

I'm really enjoying the sportswear range at H&M and New Look right now, the prints for the pants are amazing and so bold. I love bright colours for the gym! I also love number nine of my wish list because they match my current gym trousers (which were also from H&M). All the gym gear listed is reasonably priced too. I can tell from the gym gear I have already from H&M and New Look that it is high quality stuff which is fab!

So fingers crossed I keep to this gym plan!
Have you got anything from my wishlist? Is there anything on here that catches your eye? Let me know in the comments below what you think! Thanks for reading, I hope you liked this post! Make sure you follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Bloglovin for updates about my blog and general life bits and bobs! Thanks again,
