What better way to kick off December and Blogmas than starting off with all the things I love about Christmas!
Christmas is definitely one of my favourite times of the year. I love the whole festive season, being able to celebrate life and spend the much needed quality time with family. We always cherish Christmas and be thankful for what we have and feeling incredibly blessed with family and friends. This Christmas is significant too for me because this will be my last Christmas at home. It's weird to think about but I will do a post more in depth about this!
We have specific things we love about Christmas and here's mine!
1. Decorating the Christmas tree.
There's just something really 'family' about this for me. We have always set a date aside to decorate the tree and ours is full of memories. Every year since me and Ryan were born, we've had a new bauble of our choice to put on the tree. It's got baubles that are homemade, that are older than me, baubles from Disney World - all sorts.
2. Seeing the houses.
This looks really weird initially but I love driving down the roads and seeing all the houses decorated, I think it's so cute and really lovely to see.
3. Watching ALL the Christmas films.
I will do a post later on in the month about this but I love Christmas films. Kayne and I watched The Grinch in September and October so yeah... we're big fans.
4. The candles.
Holy moly, I LOVE the candles at this time of the year. Christmas and summer are my favourite scents without a doubt. They just smell amazing, they're such warm, 'homey' scents. You really can't beat it!
5. The same cheesy music year in, year out.
Can you really beat it? Bit of Mariah Carey, Wham, Michael Buble and of course Fairytale of New York - probably one of my favourite songs at this time of the year. Screw the X factor number one, it's all about the classics!
6. The food.
Erm, yes? Gimme all the turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing, cranberry sauce... JUST GIVE ME EVERYTHING. Then it's left over turkey for days. I can see why it's only a popular meat once year, by the end of the festive period you'll be fed up of turkey - turkey and chips, turkey sandwiches, turkey curry...
7. Everyone comes together.
Family really matters at Christmas for me, it's a time to cherish your loved ones, let them know how much they're appreciated and loved. Remember those who aren't with you anymore. It's also a great time to catch up with people, let your hair down and really enjoy yourselves!
8. Wrapping presents.
Bit of a weird one but I find wrapping presents so therapeutic. I go all out - colour schemes, ribbon, bows... I pride myself on my present wrapping skills!
9. New pyjamas.
This seems to be an unwritten rule for pretty much everyone. Who doesn't get new pyjamas at Christmas that they practically live in? New jimmie jams are my favourite.
10. Being thankful.
This is a bit of a soppy/home hitter one but it's true. Christmas is a time to remember how fortunate you are, think about the less fortunate and count your blessings. It's not all about the presents, who got the rose gold macbook or the brand spanking new Michael Kors watch etc, it's a time to just be thankful that you're not in a war-torn country, that you don't live in poverty or live in fear. A time to count your blessings. I know that we should think about this throughout the year and I do believe me, issues like this just to seem to hit me harder at Christmas.
