Blogmas Day Three - My favourite Christmas Films

3 December 2016

We all have the favourite films we love to watch around Christmas time, all cosy on the sofa or in bed. There's an unwritten rule in society though about WHEN it's acceptable to watch Christmas films...

But sometimes there are exceptions to this rule, I watched my first Christmas film in October! There are some films that I think you should be allowed to watch whenever! We all have our favourite films that we love to watch year in, year out and here's some of mine:

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
This is quite possibly my all time favourite. I just love it. What helps is that Kayne loves The Grinch so I'm allowed to watch it to my hearts content and he won't get pissy about it, which is a bonus! I love the simplicity, yet seriousness of it. I think Jim Carrey plays the role of The Grinch SO well, I think Kayne's impressions make the film funnier too. I can't believe there's so many people who haven't watched this film!

Elf
Another popular film for many. It's so funny but so perfect. I love the whole concept of Elf and Will Ferrel really does an amazing job of it. I love the message it sends across, to always believe and things like that. I guess it's a way to keep the magic there for the young children who may watch it but are starting to not believe anymore. My brother and I were gutted when we discovered the truth! And let's be honest, it's hilarious and so quotable! I will never tire of this film.

Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer: The Movie
Now I'm not sure if many people actually remember this film, it's pretty old I think. but every time we decorated the Christmas Tree and throughout Christmas, this film would be on without failure. So this film is very much a childhood favourite for me. I absolutely love it and the message it sends, it touches on bullying which I think is great - I won't go into this too much, just watch the film and you'll see what I mean. Even at 22 years old, I will still cry at this film, it's a real tear jerker.

A Christmas Carol
I love most variations of this film - the more recent Jim Carrey adaption, to Disney, to the Muppets. I also love the novel by Charles Dickens. I first read this when I was about 8 or 9. I was a bit of a book worm when I was younger haha! I love all variations of this and the idea of a Christmas ghost of the past, present and future. Also, the idea that someone can still change even when you think all hope is lost. It's a very traditional story which is one reason why I enjoy it so much.

Christmas With The Kranks
This film made me cry with laughter the first time I watched it and still does to this date! I think it's so funny. It shows how much Christmas has turned into a 'who did best' and a whole commodity rather than a time to just enjoy. The main characters Luther and Nora just totally reject the Christmas traditions and think sod it, let's go away! Then the whole fiasco of what unfolds really makes me chuckle! I guess it's good to show that breaking tradition is fine but also that family time is important at Christmas.

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas
I'll never tire of this film. I had it on all year, every year when I was little. I bloody love it. Even if it's not that great for many, I still love it. It has different stories throughout the film and with all the original Disney characters, it's perfect for a Disney lover like myself! I've got some serious love for this film!

Here's a confession, I've never seen Home Alone, none of them! It's never been a film that's interested me! Most of the films that I've chosen seem pretty childish, but in all honesty - Home Alone, Miracle on 34th Street and the rest of them just don't particularly appeal to me! I'm not sure why, it doesn't mean I hate them, I'm just not fussed by them!

What are your favourite Christmas films? Any of the ones I mentioned? Or are there others? Let me know in the comments below!
