Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017!

31 December 2016

Wow, my last post of 2016. Where has the year gone? I can't believe I'm writing this post already...

2016 was a very 'rollercoaster' year for the world. One minute we were swimming along quite happily then something huge happened and jiggled the balance of it all. Brexit, Trump becoming President, the war in Syria raging on, the amount of celebrities and people passing away... It sometimes got a bit too much. However, there were also some amazing things to happen in 2016 such as animals no longer endangered or on the brink of extinction, Leonardo DiCaprio FINALLY got that long awaited oscar - let's be honest we were all proud parents when it happened - suicide rates down globally... There was so much good to happen in 2016, let's not forget that! (credit to a Facebook post I read, can't find the original post)

Some personal achievements for me:
- I got engaged.
- I graduated from University with a 2.1
- I got my first graduate job as 'Events and Marketing Manager'.
- I got my first house with Kayne.
- I got my first furbabies for the house - Belle and Rupert who are the cutest kitties ever fyi.
- My Grandad is still here with us, something I wasn't expecting in all honesty!

I learnt a lot about myself in 2016, who I am, my purpose.

I learnt that friendships don't always last. They end for reasons sometimes beyond our control, sometimes they end because of things you said in anger, or things you said but you didn't mean. But that doesn't mean that you stop caring about that person, they're always in the back of your mind, you still support them from the sidelines, even if they don't know it. I'm not bitter about any of my friendships ending, they were planned that way for a reason I guess. Life works in mysterious ways.  That doesn't mean I don't want to try salvage the friendships because I do. I'm just afraid to do so. There were also the friendships that got into a bit of a rocky patch simply because I was too busy to try harder with them or I just forgot really that I had a friend there. I didn't make as much of an effort as I could have and I've probably lost out because of that. I'm sorry to those who I have hurt, to those who feel like I gave up on them or I let them down or I haven't been as good of a friend as I could have been. If you think this applies to you, then it probably does. I love you all dearly.

I learnt that blogging can also make pathways for amazing friendships. I've made a lot of friends this year through blogging, whether it's through chats on Twitter, whatsapp groups or meetups. I now consider some of these people very close friends who I talk too on a daily basis.

I learnt about family. I under appreciated my family for some time. I didn't really give them much time when I was at university and I really regret it. I could have come home a lot more than I did and family are the ones who will be there to pick you up when you fall. You only get one set of family so you have to appreciate and love them whilst they're here. Mum, Dad, Ryan - if you're reading this, just know I love you and I'm incredibly grateful.

My blog has also had a great year. My views are higher than ever, my social media at an all time high, I've had some wonderful opportunities this year and I'm incredibly grateful for them. I'm looking forward to seeing what 2017 holds for me and my lil ol' corner of the web!

I also discovered a thing or two about adulting. Man that shit is stressful. I knew it would be heptic, stressful and annoying but I did not realise it would be this hard. Ive got life insurances coming out my arse, mortgage repayments here, there and everywhere and bills all over.

I also learnt that relationships only work if you want them to work. I'm not going to sugarcoat this but Kayne and I have certainly have our rough patches this year. It wasn't that we fell out of love or anything like that. We both just stopped making the effort because we had got so used to this certain way of life that we had. In particular when I came home from University it shifted our patterns and relationship a bit. We just weren't used to each other anymore. Which sounds sad, I know but it's true. We had begun that horrible downwards spiral but thank the Lord we were able to stop it getting any worse and we were able to work on it and save our relationship. Don't get me wrong, we still argue like any couple but I think this has just made us fall in love all over again and love each other so much more. Let's be honest, after six years together - we weren't giving up that easy! We have our first house together and I can't wait to see what our future together brings.

So cheers to 2017, let's see what happens this year! I hope it brings you all happiness and good health. I hope you all achieve your dreams or start on the path to your dreams. Fight for what you believe in, don't give up on it. Don't bow down to people just because they don't agree with what you're saying - it's your opinion at the end of the day and there's nothing wrong with having an opinion!

What are you hoping for in 2017? What do you want to achieve? Do you have any goals in particular or you just taking each day as it comes? Let me know in the comments below!
