Florida: Theme Park Essentials!

8 June 2016

So as you all know I'm going to Florida again (YAY!) in T-Minus 27 days and I'm super, super excited. So I thought it would be perfect to write some blog posts surrounding Florida. It's fast approaching the summer holidays in the UK and thousands of fellow Brits will be jetting off to Florida for some fun in the sun!

I haven't been to Florida since 2009 so I can't wait to see what's changed because from what I can tell, loads has changed. Please note - the items in my photo are OLD maps, tickets, autograph books.

Something you all need to know about Florida is the humidity and the heat. It is not kind. Obviously this depends on the time of year in which you're travelling, so be prepared for some serious heat and humidity in the summer months.

Also, comfy shoes are a must. I can't stress this enough. The amount of walking you'll be doing everyday in the heat is going to be crazy, so bed your shoes in before you go. I've worn converse a few times and I've been fine, or some really comfy sandals/flip flops.

What are the essentials you need for a theme park in Florida?

- Your tickets.
This is a really obvious one but so many people forget their tickets by leaving them in their accommodation. I'm super paranoid about tickets and things being in my purse so I'm going to be checking constantly. You'll only get mad with yourself if you forget. Especially if you're staying off property and you have to drive there or use complimentary transport provided by your accommodation (which only run a couple times a day usually) You don't want to be angry in Florida...

- A park map.
It helps if you don't know the park very well or if there has been some changes since you last visited. It helps you to familiarise yourself with the scale of the parks and surroundings too. We had no option but to have a park map EVERYTIME we went to one because of my brother's Autism and he's obsessed with leaflets.

- Autograph book (and pen)
How can you not have one?!? I love getting the characters autographs and seeing their fonts and stuff. I was going to put a picture on here from inside my past autograph books but I read online somewhere that Disney don't really like you putting autographs online for some reason?

- Suncream.
This is an absolute must. You can buy suncream in the parks admittedly if you forget so it's not the end of the world, but it's just good to have your own with you and reapply regularly!!

- Patience.
Be prepared to queue, for a long time. This may sound stupid as an 'essential' but seriously, you need to go into the theme parks with patience and expect to have to queue, especially if you're going in a busy period.

This is giving me goosebumps just watching this.

- Ponchos.
The weather, whilst amazingly warm is also extremely unpredictable. Blistering heat one minute, the next, it'll be hammering it down. You can pick up ponchos in Walmart and other convenience stores so you don't have to add those to your airline luggage allowance. The ponchos in Walmart are also considerably cheaper than the ones in the parks.

- Water.
Always, always, always have water with you. You need to stay hydrated because you're in the heat majority of the day, doing a lot of walking. It does get pretty tiring. We used to go to Walmart the day we landed and buy water bottles in bulk, freeze them and take them to the park with us and it lasted us all day! There are also free stations in the parks where water fountains and things are.

- Portable phone charger.
I know people will say 'it's not about the phone, it's about enjoying yourself in the theme park' well you might want to take pictures with your phone. I know I prefer taking photos with my phone, plus battery life on phones are just drained constantly so I'd recommend getting yourself a decent portable phone charger! (there's also free wifi in the parks now woooooo) Plus there's nothing worse than your phone dying when you really need it.

- A good bag.
Use a bag that's not too heavy because you've got to carry it around. Potentially take it in turns with your other halves or friends/family to carry the bag, especially if you have a lot in.

- Other essentials include : A hat, sunglasses, wipes, deodorant, purse/wallet with money, ID etc.

So that's it for the theme park essentials post! I've not been since 2009 so if anyone can think of any extras, then let me know in the comments below! What are your essentials for Florida theme parks?
